The house

What it is, honestly.

The Lighthouse is a beachfront home in Bloubergstrand, with the Atlantic across the road and Table Mountain on the horizon. Local cafés and restaurants are within easy reach.

Gather in the generous living spaces, cook at your own pace in the fully equipped kitchen, and settle around the glass-enclosed dining room as the light changes over Table Bay.

From quiet mornings on the patio to evenings together indoors, this is a home with space to find your own rhythm. Wi-Fi, a smart TV and secure on-site parking make settling in easy.

Room by room

Five bedrooms, six spaces — each one completely different.

The Lighthouse seen from the shoreline with Table Mountain and the Cape Town skyline across Table Bay

01 — Chapter one

At the Edge

The house sits where the road runs out and the rocks begin. You hear the water before you see it. Step out of the front door, turn left, and the beach is a walk — not a drive, not a plan, a walk. Across the bay, the full mountain range: Table Mountain flat in the middle, Lion’s Head to the right, Devil’s Peak holding the left edge. Mornings between eight and eleven light the mountain face directly. It is the reason people photograph this stretch of coast and nowhere else.

The glass-box dining area at The Lighthouse with tan swivel chairs facing the ocean through full-height windows

02 — Chapter two

The Dining Box

A glazed room that pushes out toward the water, so dinner happens inside the weather rather than behind it. Two low swivel chairs face the horizon for the half hour before anyone is hungry. When the sun drops, the whole room turns the colour of the sky and nobody bothers to turn the lights on.

The pool-table room at The Lighthouse, a full-size table beside a long run of windows looking out to sea

03 — Chapter three

Room to Play

A full-size pool table with an ocean on one side of it. This is not a games corner squeezed under a stairwell — it is a room, with light, and it is the room the evening tends to drift back to. Somebody always claims they have not played in years. They are usually lying.

The Lion’s Den at The Lighthouse: leather sofas, layered rugs and a fireplace in a warmly lit lounge

04 — Chapter four

The Lion’s Den

Leather, rugs, a fire, a bar, and enough seating that nobody has to perch. The Den is the warm heart of the middle level — deliberately low-lit, deliberately unhurried, built for the part of the night when the conversation gets good and the wind picks up outside.

A cobalt-blue built-in braai and fireplace on a sheltered terrace at The Lighthouse, strung with festoon lights

05 — Chapter five

The Blue Hearth

An electric-blue built-in braai under a string of lights, on a sheltered terrace that stays usable when the Cape Doctor is showing off. This is where South Africans actually cook. Bring more meat than you think you need and give the fire an hour longer than you planned.

The rooftop terrace at The Lighthouse at twilight, festoon lights on and the Atlantic going dark beyond

06 — Chapter six

Nightfall

The top of the house is where the day is handed over. A suite that opens straight onto the dusk, a rooftop terrace with the last of the light on it, and a narrow side passage that goes an impossible shade of blue for about eleven minutes after sunset. Stay out for those eleven minutes.

What you get

The list, and the things that are not on it.

  • Four bedrooms, five bathrooms, sleeps eight
  • Three levels, each with its own outdoor space
  • Glass-box dining room facing Table Bay
  • Dedicated pool-table room
  • The Lion’s Den — fireplace lounge and bar
  • Fully equipped kitchen with island
  • Rooftop terrace for sundowners
  • Fibre Wi-Fi and two work-capable desks
  • Short walk to the beach and local restaurants
  • Secure off-street parking

Notably absent

Told to you now rather than discovered on arrival.

  • No swimming pool — the Atlantic is two minutes away, and it is cold, and that is the point.
  • No lift. Three levels means stairs.
  • Not a quiet house. It is built to be filled.

We will tell you the truth.

Send your dates and we will help you plan your stay at The Lighthouse. An enquiry is not a confirmed booking.

The Lighthouse sleeps eight across four bedrooms.

Optional — a birthday, a reunion, a week of doing nothing.

Occasion, ages, flexibility on dates — the more you tell us, the better we can answer.

For owners

This is what we do with a house when nobody is rushing us.

The Lighthouse reads the way it does because it was positioned, styled, photographed and operated as one thing rather than one of many. If you own something in the Cape, that is the offer.
